The song translates to 'Fish & Potatoes' and is a re-edit of the north Norwegian folk song group Boknakaran (consisting of Ragnar Olsen, Jan Arvid Johansen, Malvin Skullbru og Pål Thorstensen) by Rune Lindbæk, and was released on Idjut Boys' Noid Recordings. This video shows some impressions from Pyramiden on Svalbard. The contrasts here are fascinating. The surrounding nature is really spectacular and this combined with the ghost feeling in the town is really a great experience.

Pyramiden is an abandoned Russian coal mining settlement on Spitsbergen, the largest of the islands in the archipelago Svalbard. The Russians want to re-develop Pyramiden to accommodate tourists, but no one knows when this will happen. A handful of Russian workers are restoring the buildings and repairing damaged equipment.

The varieties of wheat, corn and rice we grow today may not thrive in a future threatened by climate change. Cary Fowler takes us inside a vast global seed bank, buried within a frozen mountain on Svalbard, Norway, that stores a diverse group of food-crop for whatever tomorrow may bring.

The Svalbard Global Seed Vault, or the Doomsday Vault as the media have nicknamed it, was officially opened on February 26, 2008, to serve as the ultimate safety net for one of the world’s most important natural resources.

Tucked away under the snows of the Arctic Circle is the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. Sometimes called the doomsday vault, it's nothing less than a backup of the world's biological diversity in a horticultural world fast becoming homogenous in the wake of a flood of genetically identical GMOs.

For Cary Fowler, a self-described Tennessee farm boy, this vault is the fulfillment of a long fight against shortsighted governments, big business and potential disaster. Inside the seed vault, Fowler and his team work on preserving wheat, rice and hundreds of other crops that have nurtured humanity since our ancestors began tending crops -- and ensuring that the world's food supply has the diversity needed to stand against the omnipresent threats of disease, climate change and famine.

The Perito Moreno Glacier is a glacier located in the Los Glaciares National Park in the south west of Santa Cruz province, Argentina. The glacier is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Argentine Patagonia.

The 250 km2 (97 sq mi) ice formation, and 30 km (19 mi) in length, is one of 48 glaciers fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field located in the Andes system shared with Chile. This icefield is the world's third largest reserve of fresh water.

There are photographers from all aound the world that come to southern Argentina and literally camp out at the glacier site in order to get the actual breakup on film.

That's the southern end of the Skarvberg tunnel, on the last strectch of road to the North Cape, 20km North of olderfjord crossroad. The reindeer are often there at the end of summer, when outside temperatures are over 15° for a few days. You can hear the whistle, which is to discourage them to come in the tunnel. But sometimes, the temptation is too big. Now they have placed some tubes on the road so reindeer should not cross, and a fence all around. Not sure it helps very much.
